OT Systems Engineer (PLC / SCADA - Process Automation)
We are seeking an OT Systems Engineer with strong communication and a structured, proactive approach to project work.
In this role, you will bring a data-driven mindset, help analyze OT environments and interfaces, and translate technical complexity into clear finding and practical next steps. You contribute to OT assessments, identify gaps, and help design practical, maintainable solutions for our customers.
You are comfortable engaging with customers, supporting workshops, and helping structure discussions and follow-up actions. Through reliable collaboration and clear communication, you help build trust and progress in projects.
You grow through hands-on project work. You learn how to combine technical quality, documentation discipline, and good collaboration with customers and colleagues. Beyond execution, you think along, raise issues early, and help turn process requirements into robust and maintainable solutions.
You explain complex topics in simple language and support knowledge sharing with colleagues and users.
Tech stack focus
• PLC: Siemens S7 / TIA Portal
• SCADA: iFIX, Ignition, WinCC
• Industrial networks
• Bonus: PCS 7 / Rockwell and DCS ownership, Historian systems, other automation software (Aveva system platform...)
Where you add value
• You support customers in process automation environments in improving solutions with PLC / SCADA tooling. You contribute to reliable and maintainable automation by combining sound engineering practice with a structured, hands-on approach.
• You support OT assessments by helping structure findings, identifying gaps, and translating observations into practical improvement actions.
• You contribute to process automation solutions by developing and adjusting control logic, operator interfaces, and diagnostics that support stable plant operation.
• You help translate process requirements into automation solutions such as sequences, interlocks, alarming, and operator guidance, with attention to safety, availability, and usability.
• You reduce project and start-up risk through disciplined engineering: clear documentation, structured testing, issue follow-up, and clean handover.
• You add value by being dependable in execution: preparing work thoroughly, escalating issues on time, and keeping focus on quality in design, programming, and testing.
Your responsibilities include
• Support OT assessments and customer workshops by gathering technical input, documenting findings, and helping define follow-up actions.
• Support project execution from design through commissioning under guidance of senior engineers and technical leads.
• Translate functional descriptions and process input into PLC and SCADA implementations.
• Develop and maintain PLC software in Siemens S7 / TIA Portal following project standards, modular design principles, and good engineering practice.
• Configure and improve SCADA applications in iFIX, Ignition, or WinCC, with focus on clear operator interaction, alarms, trends, and basic data consistency.
• Assist in testing activities such as simulation, FAT, SAT, commissioning, troubleshooting, and punch list follow-up.
• Support integration by helping configure interfaces, checking connectivity, and troubleshooting across PLC, SCADA, and network layers.
• Document engineering work in a structured way: design notes, test evidence, as-built updates, and issue tracking.
• Work closely with senior engineers, process specialists, and customers to clarify requirements, report progress, and resolve technical issues.
• Manage your own engineering tasks with realistic planning, clear priorities, and timely escalation when scope, timing, or quality is at risk.
• Contribute to team growth by applying lessons learned, reusing standards and templates, and steadily building technical depth.
What we’re looking for
You have a first solid basis in industrial automation and a clear interest in process automation environments. You want to grow in PLC / SCADA engineering, and you take ownership of your work without overstretching your level of autonomy.
You bring a structured engineering mindset. You work accurately, document your work properly, and keep focus on quality in design, programming, and testing. You prepare your work well, keep overview of your tasks, and escalate on time when needed.
You are comfortable working in a project environment where you collaborate with senior engineers, technical leads, process specialists, and customers. You listen well, ask sharp questions, and communicate clearly about progress, issues, and next steps.
You have experience with or a strong affinity for PLC and SCADA engineering in an industrial context. Experience with Siemens S7 / TIA Portal is important. Exposure to SCADA platforms such as iFIX, Ignition, or WinCC is a strong plus.
You understand that good automation is not just about code. It is also about maintainability, testing, operator usability, and reliable system behaviour in the field.
You are motivated to keep learning and to build depth in areas such as control logic, HMI/SCADA configuration, troubleshooting, commissioning, and industrial communication.
You preferably bring
• A bachelor’s or master’s degree in automation, electrical engineering, electromechanics, or a comparable technical field
• First experience in industrial automation, process automation, or control systems engineering
• Experience with Siemens PLC engineering, preferably S7 / TIA Portal
• Basic experience with one or more SCADA platforms such as iFIX, Ignition, or WinCC
• Affinity with industrial communication networks and system integration
• A structured and disciplined way of working
• Strong attention to detail in engineering, testing, and documentation
• Good time management and a realistic, flexible planning attitude
• A proactive mindset: you do not wait too long to raise issues or ask for alignment
• Good communication skills in a project and customer context
• Willingness to work on-site during testing and commissioning phases when needed
What makes the difference
• You show genuine interest in process automation and understand the wider context behind PLC / SCADA solutions
• You understand the value of clear documentation and test evidence
• You stay calm under pressure and keep working in a methodical way
• You are eager to learn from more senior colleagues and steadily grow into broader responsibility
• You combine dedication with a practical, no-nonsense attitude
